NEW ORLEANS TOUR 2026
If you weren’t able to join us in 2024 for our Spain/Portugal Tour, then here’s your chance to make it happen. This is a domestic tour that is much shorter and much cheaper than the recent European trip. We are looking for dedicated, committed singers who are eager to have a great musical experience as well as being with classmates and enjoying being on a tour with Ken Abrams as an ADULT!
Space is limited, so make sure you fill out the registration form to save your spot!
DATES: Wed April 8 – Mon April 13. This is spring break for the SRVUSD. You will need to arrive by Wed in the evening and then depart any time on Monday. This is a 6 night / 5 day trip. We will do our group rehearsing the morning of Thurs, April 9, so you MUST be there then.
PERFORMANCES: We will have 4 performances while on this tour - two in churches and two at other community venues (plus any spontaneous moments available to us to “sing our hearts out”).
REHEARSALS: There will be monthly Saturday rehearsals for all singers and they will be conducted in the SF East Bay. If you cannot attend, then you are required to participate on the live zoom call OR you must watch the rehearsal video on your own! Regardless of live or zoom, if you sign up, you are committing to learning and memorizing the music. If you can’t do this, DON’T sign up!
EXPECTATIONS: Participants are expected to learn 10-12 pieces of music and have them completely memorized before arriving. If you can’t do this, then please DON’T sign up! If you can’t memorize that many songs, DON’T sign up! Some of the songs will be those we used for the 2024 tour (standards like “Ain-A That Good News”, “Ride the Chariot” and “Shenandoah”) And if you’re a procrastinator who thinks they can get it done at the last minute, but in turn lets us down…DON’T sign up! SIGHTSEEING: Oak Alley Plantation (a real historical civil war plantation) Bayou Swamp and Airboat Tour, New Orleans City Tour including the French Market, French Quarter and Bourbon Street, and Mardi Gras World - home to the colorful floats at this annual parade celebration.
OTHER EVENTS: Included is a group dinner at a Cajun Restaurant, a Jazz Club Night, an Evening Ghost Tour and a Farewell Dinner on the Steamboat “Natchez” with Jazz Music on the Mississippi River.
COSTS: Only $1,000 per person for 6 days and 5 nights. Hotel rooms are double occupancy with two queen beds (you can choose your roommate). A single supplement is also available if you prefer a private room (but that will cost you approximately $500 extra). This $1,000 price includes: hotel with meeting rooms and daily breakfasts, transportation on charter buses, local street cars or transit buses, two group dinners, and all of the events and sight-seeing opportunities mentioned above.
AIRFARE: Each participant will be responsible for their OWN AIR TRAVEL in and out of New Orleans. (currently Southwest and Delta are showing between $300-$500 for roundtrip between SFO). And don’t forget - you must be there for a group rehearsal on Thursday morning and if you can’t attend this important meeting, then DON’T sign up!!
TIMELINE: The first step is to register by July 15, followed by submitting a $250 nonrefundable deposit. There will then be 3 more payments of $250 each due on Sept 15, Nov 15, and Feb 15. Payment details will be emailed to everyone who registers.
SPACE AND SPOUSES - Space will be limited and this is a first come, first serve opportunity. We are also looking for a balanced choir of men and women, so tell your classmates now. Spouses are only welcome if we have enough rooms and space for them on the buses. We’ll know the exact numbers after people fill out their online registration forms.
WAIVER AND RELEASE FORM - The reason this trip is so affordable is because we are organizing it on our own and not using a third party travel agent. The tour committee will do their utmost to provide a seamless, rewarding experience, but all participants will be required to sign a release form holding the tour planning committee members completely free from any liability regarding any possible mishaps, hiccups or acts of God. If you can’t do this, then DON’T sign up!
We’re looking forward to another wonderful alumni experience. But this time, we won’t have a 5-8 hour time lag, the heat and humidity of summer, or the constraints of foreign languages, currencies, customs, etc. We also won’t have the 3-5 hour drives between cities like we did in Spain/Portugal. All of this adds up to more free time and enjoyment in wonderful
